Thelma was born and raised in Green Spring, WV and graduated from Romney High School class of 1941. Upon graduating, she worked for the Health Department and then at the Celanese during World War II until they closed. Thelma then moved to Garland Petroleum (later becoming Yoder Petroleum) and worked there until her retirement in the 1970’s. She never married and lived with, and took care of, her parents, always staying close to her family. Thelma played the role of being a secondary mother to her siblings, then a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. She loved her big family and always being a part of whatever was going on. Thelma lived at her home, and by her choice, alone until she suffered a broken hip as a result of a fall. She was a lifetime member of the Forest Glen United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served on many committees and in her younger years, she played the organ and piano.
Her sisters, Alma, Shirley, and Joann would like to thank everyone who took good care of Thelma at the Golden Living Center. When anyone would come into Thelma’s room, she would say, “I’m Thelma Parker Landis and I want a Snicker’s bar.” The nurses would see that she would get one. Thelma will surely be missed by her family and friends.
