Thelma Parker Landis, 94, of Green Spring, WV died peacefully at the Golden Living Center in Cumberland, MD on Wednesday, April 5th, 2017.

Born at home on October 29th, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Warnie Landis and Lena Belle (Wagner) Landis.  She is also predeceased by three brothers; Carl, Bobby and Warnie, Jr. Landis.  One sister; Dorothy L. Beam, two sister-in-laws; Helen and Jeanie Landis, and one brother-in-law; Dailey Messick.

Thelma is survived by three sisters; Alma Messick of Green Spring, WV, Shirley Paulus of Cumberland, MD and Joann Corbett and husband Gilbert of Salisbury, NC.  One sister-in-law, Una Landis who resides at the New Hope Nursing Home in Cumberland, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thelma was born and raised in Green Spring, WV and graduated from Romney High School class of 1941.  Upon graduating, she worked for the Health Department and then at the Celanese during World War II until they closed.  Thelma then moved to Garland Petroleum (later becoming Yoder Petroleum) and worked there until her retirement in the 1970’s.  She never married and lived with, and took care of, her parents, always staying close to her family.  Thelma played the role of being a secondary mother to her siblings, then a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews.  She loved her big family and always being a part of whatever was going on.  Thelma lived at her home, and by her choice, alone until she suffered a broken hip as a result of a fall.  She was a lifetime member of the Forest Glen United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served on many committees and in her younger years, she played the organ and piano.

Her sisters, Alma, Shirley, and Joann would like to thank everyone who took good care of Thelma at the Golden Living Center.  When anyone would come into Thelma’s room, she would say, “I’m Thelma Parker Landis and I want a Snicker’s bar.”  The nurses would see that she would get one.  Thelma will surely be missed by her family and friends.
