Shirley Rae (Clarke) Corbin, 76, of Romney, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 4th at Winchester Medical Center. Born January 10, 1941 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late R.R. and Mary E. (Jones) Clarke Warnick.
Besides her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Allen Corbin, Sr. (dec. November 6, 2008); her brother, Ross Randolph “Junie” Clarke, Jr.; and her step-father, Robert D. Warnick.
Surviving Shirley is a son, Gary Allen Corbin, Jr. and wife Karen of Romney; a brother, James H. Clarke of Cumberland; a sister, Elizabeth E. “Sue” Titus of Hagerstown; and a grandson, Jordan A. Corbin of Romney. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her two special furry friends, TJ and Boo.
Shirley met Gary through a relative and the couple married on January 25, 1960. They began their life’s journey in Prince George’s County, Maryland and in April of 1961, were blessed with a son, Gary, Jr. After many years of the city life, they decided to move to Hampshire County to be closer to family. In their 48 years together, they were parents to many furry family members.
On Mother’s Day, May 11, 1985, Shirley and family joined the fellowship of Little Capon Baptist Church. She enjoyed sharing her gifts of song writing and performing to tell others about Jesus Christ. She especially loved singing the old hymns of the faith. Shirley’s faith sustained her in the battle and ultimate victory over breast cancer in the fall of 2003. As the many years passed, Shirley faced many changes in her life. Her faith in Jesus Christ gave her the courage and strength to face each new challenge.
Friends will be received Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 12:00 Noon till 1:00 PM at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Ebenezer Cemetery in Romney.
