Richard Hamilton Kolb, 82, of Shanks, WV (formerly of Montgomery County, MD)  passed away Monday, May 8th at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA.  Born March 20th, 1935 he was the son of the late Walter G. and Gladys (May) Kolb.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Kolb, Jr. and Kenneth Kolb.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary E. Kolb and their children, Richard H. Kolb, Jr. and wife Roberta of Mount Airy, MD, Joyce K. Richard graduated from High School in Bethesda, MD., immediately going to work for his father at Kolb Electric.  He and Mary started dating in 1955, marrying in 1957 and beginning their family.  At Kolb Electric, Richard started at the bottom, working his way up to owning a sizeable, family  business.  In 1969 the Kolbs bought their first parcel of land in West Virginia, traveling back and forth on the weekends and spending summers here.  For Richard, much stress was left behind in the hills of Hampshire County, and many memories made by the entire family.  Everyone worked, kids included, and as the years went by, more land was acquired.  Richard loved coming to the the farms and his Black Angus cattle.  Many from Hampshire County will remember Mary and Richard owning The Primrose restaurant in the early 90’s. He was one of those personalities that liked to be in control and was seldom reluctant to share his opinion or sarcastic side.  Richard’s magnetic personality was an open and friendly one who enjoyed the friendships and loyalty of many.

  3. Dearest Mary:

I was totally shocked to read Richard’s Obituary this morning online. I have actually known you and Richard since the Waterworths opened. But when The Primrose opened. We really became wonderful friends. The Primrose was an important part in my life and you and Richard were in my heart very deeply. You both and the Primrose saw me thru the good times as well as the bad times. I always knew if I were having a bad day, that dinner at The Primrose would make everything alright. I was quit sadden when you closed and a very special part of my life was empty. However, you and Richard never lost that special place in my heart, I thing whoever wrote Richard’s Obituary did a very beautiful. I was so please to read that you had chosen Mt. Dale Cemetery. My grandfather was one of three trustees of the cemetery until his death in 1974. Also my great- grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins are interred there. So, Mt. Dale Cemetery has always been a special place to me and now it will be a even more a special place to me. Now there will be an empty place in my heart, but you will remain there forever. I want to take this opportunity to express my Deepest Sympathy and Sincere Prayers to you and your very special family.

    With Love,
