Ray Roger Jones, 83, of Green Spring, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10th at the Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland. Born August 4, 1934 in Green Spring, he was the son of the late Wynter L. and Edith I. (Kerns) Jones.
Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by two sons, Terry R. Jones and John R. Jones; his brother, Bobby Jones; his granddaughter, Kaylea Jones; and by his first wife, Shelby Jean Jones.
Ray is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Faye Jones, who he married February 27, 1965. Two sons; David E. Jones (Tonya) of Green Spring and Bucky Jones (Bonita) of Annapolis, MD. Two daughters; Susie I. Davidson (Butch) of Romney and Tonya L. Jones also of Romney; his twin brother, Roy L. Jones (Dot) of Old Town. Ray is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, one of whom was the pride and joy and light of his life, Addy Dunford, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ray was raised in Green Spring and attended the Green Spring School. At the age of 16, he ventured to Canada and found employment with TELEWELL, a railroad welding company. From Canada, he traveled to Chicago then to Washington, DC where he worked as a plumber. In the early 1960’s, Ray had enough of traveling and found his way back home to Green Spring. His early welding days gave him the experience necessary to be hired by CHEMTRON, also a railroad welding company, located there in Green Spring. He worked locally there until his retirement in 1985. He met Charlotte in 1964 and in February of 1965, they were married and raised their family in Green Spring. Ray was somewhat of a jokester. If you needed a good story or a joke, he was your man. He loved to play cards and it seemed as if every game was in his favor. He loved to fish and enjoyed fishing trips with his family and friends. He enjoyed his garden and canning, joy riding the back roads, wrestling programs on TV and at 7:00 every evening, “Wheel of Fortune”. Ray never met a stranger. He never got excited over anything and would give you the shirt off his back. The door was always open at his house; if you needed something, come on in, that’s why the door has hinges. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Friends will be received Monday, November 13, 2017 from 1:00 PM till 3:00 PM at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Donald J. Judy, Jr. officiating.
