Marjorie Louise “Marj” Boley

November 18, 1932 - April 5, 2019

Marjorie Louise “Marj” Boley passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital.  Born November 18, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Freda V. (Criss) Beck.

Besides her parents, Marj is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Monroe Boley and her brother, Donald Wilson Beck.

Marj is survived by her children, Brian M. Boley and wife Michele L. (Steinemann) Boley of Romney, Brad M. Boley of Richmond, and Luanna E. (Boley) Lee and husband Keith of Morgantown.  Nine grandchildren; JeanneMarie (Boley) Withers, Brianna Boley, Brent Siuchninski, Wesley Boley, Camden Boley , Taylor Boley, Jacob Lee, Derek Lee and Ben Lee.  Also surviving are six great grandchildren and two more on the way.

Born and raised in Wellsburg, WV, Marj graduated from Wellsburg High with the class of 1950 and attended Liberty College.  She was recruited to Romney by the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.  While working and teaching in Romney, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in English at West Virginia University.  In Romney, she met and married Louis Boley in 1957 and they started their family.  Marj was remarkable.  She could be a full-time mother (top priority) and a full-time teacher, concurrently.  Both responsibilities she gave 100%.  She retired from WVSD after 45 years of teaching and devoted her energies back to her community, primarily through her church.  She was a member of the Eastern Star, General Federated Women’s Club 0f Romney (GFWC) where she served (2) terms as President, Romney First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Marj was a problem solver, and she could do so with a smile.  She sewed miles of material for costumes, neighbors and whoever needed a button sewed back on (this funeral director) and she never wanted to accept a dime for doing so.   She had a gift for and the knowledge of “signing.”  She did so in church for the deaf, she did it for funerals, she did it wherever it was needed.  Marj always chose to look on the bright side of things, and there were many of us who looked forward to her Sunday church announcements of how many days “’til Spring.”  She leaves an empty spot in Hampshire County.  Thank you and Godspeed Marj.

Friends will be received on Monday, April 8, 2019 from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Romney First United Methodist Church with friends being received at 10:00 AM.  Pastor Mark James and Rev. Dr. Roy Knight will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Romney First United Methodist Church ~ 49 North High St. ~ Romney, WV 26757
