Marie Elizabeth (Hartman) Hott

October 27, 1941 - November 3, 2018

Marie Elizabeth (Hartman) Hott, 77, of Romney went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 3, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the Hampshire Center.

Born October 27, 1941 in Burlington, she was the daughter of the late Issac Van and Alice Marie (Walker) Hartman.

Besides her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her former husband, John A. Hott (d. 1991).  Two daughters, Janet M. and Margie A. Hott.  Her brother, John W. Hartman.  Her sister, Dorothy (Dot Hartman) Judy.  Her son-in-law, Bruce Orndorff.  Two step-granddaughters, Breanna Sanchez and Shelly Wine.  Also preceding her in death was her companion of 45 years, James T. Curran, Sr.

Marie is survived by her son, Steven R. Hott of Romney and her daughter, Sharon L. (Hott) Orndorff of Augusta.  Her four sisters; Betty Hartman (Bob) of Burlington, Judy Ellifritz of New Creek, Linda Oates (Wayne) of Keyser, and Darlene Meek (Steve) also of Keyser.  Three brothers; Howard Hartman of Keyser, Arthur (Sambo) Hartman (Vicki) of Bunker Hill, and Kenny Hartman (Shirley) of Burlington.  Two granddaughters; Stephanie R. Hott and companion Austin Hanna of Romney and Mary E. Orndorff of Augusta.  Two great grandchildren; Izabella R. Hanna and Brantley C. Hanna both of Romney.  Marie also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marie spent most of her life in Burlington.  For years she was a dedicated homemaker taking care of her children and making sure they had everything they needed.  She was their “Hero”.  Always being there for them when they needed her the most.  She received her GED in 1980 and soon went to work for the Potomac Center, eventually retiring at the Washington St. Group Home in October of 2001.

Marie has battled many illnesses.  In 2008 she had a stroke that paralyzed her left side.  In 2010 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.  Many may remember her from Piney Valley in Keyser, which she called home until 2017 when she relocated to the Hampshire Center in Romney to be closer to family.  Marie will be greatly missed.

Friends will be received on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 11:00 AM till 2:00 PM at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dale Myers and Pastor Gwen Wolford officiating.  Interment will be at the Hartman Cemetery in Burlington.
