Margaret “Margie” Blanche Davis, 84, of Romney, passed away Tuesday, July 18th at the Hampshire Center in Romney. Born May 18th, 1932 in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Oscar L. and Ollie M. (Fishel) McBride. Besides her parents, Margie is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Catherine McBride (infant) and Gladys Conard.
Surviving Margie are five nieces and nephews, eleven great nieces and nephews, and sixteen great-great nieces and nephews.
Margie was born and raised on the family home place/farm in Springfield, WV graduating with the class of 1952 from Romney High School. She moved to Romney in 1954 and began a career path starting at the Green Palm Restaurant, then to a milk and cream business until it’s close. In 1969 Margie went to work at the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind from which she retired after 24 years of service. While employed at the Deaf and Blind School, Margie took a class in signing at Shepherd College, and in 1973 she went to Western Piedmont Community College in North Carolina for training and received her certification as a Dormitory Teacher. She was also a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church.
Margie’s life was about work and taking care of others. She was career focused and saved much of what she earned. Much of her free time was consumed caring for others; her mother until her death in 2008 and anyone else who needed care. Not even once did Margie take a vacation and she truly didn’t understand why anyone else would. Her direct and very serious personality were known to many, and it was a challenge to make her laugh, however, when she did the room lit up. Her pleasures were found in gardening, talking with friends and family, reading and the study of the Bible. She was one who will be remembered as giving much more than she took.
Friends will be received Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney from 10:30 AM till 11:00 AM. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Denzil Davis officiating. Interment will be at Ebenezer Cemetery in Romney.
