Louis Sebastian Smith, Jr., age 87 of Levels, WV died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of The Panhandle.
He is the son of the late Louis Sebastian Smith, Sr. and Marie William Tudor Smith. Also predeceased by his wife, Maryland Jane Smith and a daughter, Edith Marie Smith.
Louis is survived by his son, Louis William Smith and a daughter, Barbara Kay Smith Havins (husband Clyde) of Levels, WV.
Louis was born and raised in Baltimore, MD and started to work at a very young age and never stopped. One of his first jobs was usher in a theatre in Baltimore, then on to Trade School where he apprenticed then became a Tool and Die maker. Along the way he decided that he should complete his High School Diploma and also learned the skills of a Gunsmith. Louis married his beloved Jane in 1961 and they started their family. His work as a Tool and Die worker took them from Baltimore to Anne Arundel to Hartford Counties, MD and finally to Arizona where he eventually retired. Upon his retirement they moved back to Jane’s hometown of Levels, WV.
Louis’ pleasures were found in fishing, shooting, guns (Life member of the NRA) and enjoying his surroundings. His easy-going nature precluded him from being much of a disciplinarian with his kids, all that was left to Jane. Louis had a fun streak that led to much teasing and “rocking the boat” especially with his mother-in-law.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM at the Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney where funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 9 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Levels Cemetery, Levels, WV.
Contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of The Panhandle, 278 N. High St., Romney, WV 26757.
