John “Johnny” Edward Hook

May 19, 1955 - January 23, 2019

John “Johnny” Edward Hook, 63, of Springfield, WV passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at his residence.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur James Hook, Sr. and Mary Anna (Monnett) Hook.

He is survived by a son, John “B.J.”, his brother, Jim Hook (wife Donna) of Cumberland, MD and his sister, Mary Lou Bishop (husband Tom) of Cumberland, and his dear friends Tim and Lisa Frye and their family.  He is also survived by many other family members.

Johnny was born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland.  He graduated from Oldtown School with the class of 1973.  John enlisted with the U.S. Army and served his country three years and was honorably discharged.  Johnny enjoyed machinery, and consequently his career centered around the automotive industry.  He retired from Abex / Federal Mogul after 26 years of service.  Johnny was a sports enthusiast.  He enjoyed bowling, golf and of great focus, softball.  It’s been said he would forgo a meal to play softball.  He was a kind, likeable and a big-hearted soul who very much enjoyed people.

There will be a private service held when the weather turns warm in Springfield, WV at the Springfield Ruritan ball field.

  1. Sorry for your loss. My first adult men’s league I got to bowl with John. He was a good guy and will be missed.

  2. To all of John’s family my deepest condolences. I remember him well from Oldtown School. John was a fantastic person. My prayers are with you all.

  7. So sorry for your loss. I met John “Hooker” many years ago when he worked with my brother, Dan and also they played Softball together. He was such has dear friend to me and my Children.   8. We are so very sorry to hear of Johns passing. He was a very good friend and was always concerned about our family and how we were getting along. My husband played softball many years with him. We will miss seeing him out and about. Love and prayers to the family.
