Jennie Ann Patterson, 85, of Romney, passed away Friday, November 17th at the Hampshire Center in Romney. Born April 2, 1932 in Luray, Page County, Virginia, she was the only daughter of the late James F. and Dora (Lehew) Morgan. Besides her parents, Jennie is preceded in death by husbands, Glenn Garber and Ellis “Pat” Patterson and by her brother, James “Jim” Morgan.
Jennie is survived by her step-son; Rich Patterson and wife Mary of Romney. Her two step-daughters; Patty Wygal and husband Phil of Augusta and Susan Grady and husband Jim of Cresaptown. Her six step-grandchildren; Tricia Wygal Morris, Tracey Wygal Withrow, Matt Wygal, Eric Patterson, Ian Grady, and Jordan Grady. Her two step-great grandchildren; Seth and Aidan Morris. Jennie is also survived by her cousins, Barbara Lehew Paules and husband Bill and Jonathan Paules, all of York, PA.
Jennie was educated at Luray High School and Madison College, now James Madison University. For a number of years she was the associate editor of the Page News and Courier in Luray and was the author of “Old Homes of Page County”, a historical book concerning fifty of some of the county’s oldest homes and Indian Forts.
After moving to West Virginia, she was employed for more than 30 years as a legal secretary and Certified Court Reporter for the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. She was united in marriage with H. Glenn Garber, who died on August 12, 1972. On April 7, 1980, she was united in marriage with Ellis H. “Pat” Patterson, who preceded her in death on December 21, 2003.
Jennie was a member of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Romney, where she served as a member of the Altar Guild, the church choir, and was a former member of the Episcopal Church Women. She will be truly missed family and friends.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Dr. Roy Knight officiating. Interment will be at Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.
