Hubert “Whitey” Dale White, 77, of Romney, WV passed away peacefully Monday, May 8th at Latrobe Hospital in Latrobe, PA. Born November 4th, 1939 in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late Hubert E. and Bessie M. (Pitzer) White. Besides his parents, Whitey is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Judith I. White, who passed away June 27, 2016 and a brother, Danny White.
Whitey graduated from Mullens High School, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he enjoyed boxing, working his way up to Fly Weight Champion from 1959 to 1960. After the Army, Whitey found himself in Columbia Heights, Maryland where he met and married Judy in 1963 and soon started their family. He spent 30 years as an Iron Worker, with the Local Hall 201 in Washington, DC and the Local in Cumberland, MD (after moving to Romney in 1986). Whitey was a Union supporter, and quite the character. After his retirement in 2008, he worked as a maintenance man at the McDonald’s here in Romney. Whitey seldom met a stranger, and his kindness toward others will long be remembered and missed. Much comfort is found in knowing that he has gone home to be with his true love, Judy. Whitey lived a full life and will surely be missed by family and friends.
Whitey is survived by his children, Dale A. White and wife Robin of Strasburg, VA and Deana White of Romney. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Travis Ayers, Tyler Ayers, Cheyenne Agosto and husband Angel, Dillon Cleaver, Emily White, and Jacob White as well as three great grandchildren, Bentlee Ayers, Elaina Michael, and Nashalie Agosto.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at Indian Mound Cemetery in Romney with Pastor James Tyree officiating.
