Harriet was born and raised in Romney, WV graduating from Romney High School in 1948. After high school, she attended school in Winchester, VA earning her RN degree. After working as a nurse in Winchester for about a year, she met Sam at the Apple Blossom Festival and they married the following year. The young couple soon moved to Norfolk, VA and started their family. After (5) children and 17 years, they moved back to their home state to Martinsburg. Harriet was a wife, mom and nurse and devoted her life to doing an excellent job at all 3. She worked at the Veteran’s Hospital in Martinsburg for 24 years, retiring from there and working at other medical facilities up into her late 70’s. Her life was all about caring for others.
Harriet’s personality dictated organization, being very direct and everything and everybody being squared away. She did not wear her sense of humor on her sleeve, however, those who knew her knew that it was in her soul and that Sam was the conduit for laughter. Her life and her focus on others left little time for hobbies and clubs; she was always taking care of others, her dogs included. No matter where they lived, in her heart, Romney, WV was always home.
