Frances “Jean” (Lewis) Kenney, of Fort Ashby passed away Sunday morning, July 22nd at the Dawn View Center in Fort Ashby. She was 91. Born in Springfield, WV on February 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Jessie (Iliff) Lewis.
Besides her parents, Jean is also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Patrick Kenney (d. June 12, 1994). Their only child, a son, Ronald B. Kenney; a brother, Frank H. Lewis; a sister, Mary Lee Lewis; (4) brothers-in-law, Leo, Allen, Donald, and Brian Kenney; and (3) sisters-in-law, Xyla Lewis, Anna Kidwell, and Carol Kenney.
Jean is survived by her grandson S. Scott Kenney and wife April of Fort Ashby; Scott’s mother, Sandy Wilhelm of Cresaptown; a daughter-in-law, Judy A. (Twigg) Kenney of the late Ronald B. Kenney of Fort Ashby and her family; a brother-in-law, Aven Kenney; (4) sisters-in-law, Betty Kenney of Levels, Janet Kenney of Kentucky, Pearl Davidson of Levels, and Judy Kenney of Virginia. Jean is also survived by her niece, Xina Kojzar and husband Paul of Ellicott City, MD; and her lifetime friend, Noralee Kimble.
Jean graduated from Romney High School, Class of 1944. On Valentine’s Day 1946, she married her lifelong partner, Bernard, and soon started their family. Jean lived a simple family life and took pride in being a homemaker. She was strong willed, independent, and very caring. She loved to play the piano, read, quilt, cook, and take care of anyone who needed help. She was very involved at her church, Berean Independent Baptist Church in Fort Ashby, where she sung in the adult choir and was active in the ladies’ fellowship.
Even in declining health, Jean’s love for cooking was still there. She would prepare meals for her “sitters”. Much gratitude and appreciation go to Marion, Charmaine, Beverly, and Joyce ~ Thank You. In April of this year, Jean moved to the Dawn View Center for around-the-clock nursing care. Jean will be missed greatly.
Friends will be received Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 6:00p till 8:00p at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 12:00 Noon with Leon Hinkle officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Levels Cemetery in Levels, WV.
