David Arnold Rinker

August 6, 1934 - November 17, 2018

David Arnold Rinker, 84, of Romney passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Hospice of the Panhandle facility in Kearneysville, WV.  Born August 6, 1934 in Junction, he was the son of the late Dallas I. and Ethel Lee (Arnold) Rinker.

Besides his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his brother, Ivan “Squeak” Rinker.

Dave is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Marie (Dean) Rinker.  His son, Jamey Rinker and wife Penny of Romney.  His two sisters, Mary Louise Hartsock of Frederick, MD and Beall Sions of Burlington as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dave graduated Romney High School, Class of 1951.  Following high school, he entered into the US Army Reserves and cut and hauled pulp wood.  Throughout his work career, he was a dispatcher for the West Virginia State Police, employed at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, and in 1980 he started working for Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. from which he retired with 25+ years of service.  Dave also had the first STIHL dealership in Hampshire Co.

Dave loved cutting firewood and working in the woods.  He had many interests including woodworking, gardening, and tending to his small orchard behind the house.  He was a quiet, private person, but would help out anyone in need.  He was kind to everyone and really enjoyed his Saturday mornings at McDonald’s with the locals.

He was a man of many traits and had a certain way of doing things.   Dave was proud of his garden, his roses, and he loved his son Jamey.  He will be sadly missed, especially by his furry friend, Rascal.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 11:00 AM till 12:00 Noon at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Kevin Hay officiating.  Interment will be at St. Lukes Cemetery, River Rd., Romney.

    I’m so sorry to read about the passing of your loved one.. I know from experience that times like these can be especially hard on the family. For myself I turned to 1 Corinthians 15:26. There It tells us that death will be brought to nothing- abolished! And John 5:28 helped me to see that I can see my loved ones again! And so can you my friend. I hope these scriptures have added some relief to your grief. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
