Anna “Ann” Helmick Kidwell, 79, of Romney, WV, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. “Ann” was born on September 6, 1934 in Hardy County, WV. YJR daughter of the late Hendron and Carrie (Shockey) Helmick. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
“Ann” was born and raised in Moorefield, WV. Upon getting married and moving to Romney in 1954, she immediately went to work at Corbett’s Drug Store. “Ann” started her family and returned to the work force with “Head Start”. This position evolved into “Ann” becoming a field social worker with Community Action. She worked in this position until her retirement in 1983. While a career consumed some time, her overwhelming focus was her family as she was “Mom” to many. She loved to cook, travel with family, and create family events that brought all together in celebration. The light and sparkle in her life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving with her husband of 59 years, Sartell Kidwell are: Calotta, Carla, Brad and Johanna, Jamie and Alison, Carrie, D.J.; Zane and Zara; Gabrian and Greydon; Nixon and Berkley; a special little furry friend, Amelia; and a sister Helen Kesner.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV with Dr. Roy Knight officiating. Interment will be at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV. Memorials may be made to ST. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
